Description:
This poetry book was designed in close collaboration with the poet.
As a poet and a geologist, the poems contain many references to geological terms and themes, as well as to dreams or dream states.
The title is a geological term that is used to describe an area of land where the underlying rock is exposed to the earth's surface.
I thought this could be nicely portrayed by torn tracing paper. The torn lines represent the capricious shapes of the land and bedrock.
The transparency gives it a bit of a dreamy look.
As for the materials, everything works together to give the book an earthy feel. The linnen thread, the stone-surface paper, the torn edges of the flyleaf.
